Romeo Anghelache in blogul Humanist @ roua.org face un comentariu interesant cu privire la UE si la necesitatea unei singure limbi comune.

I see a lot of competitions going on hiring translators and interpreters for the European instutions and that makes me think about the issue.The E.U. administration should provide a table with two cells: how much does the European administration spend on translating and interpreting, and how much does it spend on research and the administrative/regulative/decision work.

I’m pretty sure at some point in the near future the language related expenses will surpass the real-work expenses.

It seems obvious, to me, at least, that a true E.U. community cannot exist without a common language.

There is also a cultural argument against english: the habits of the native english language users are associated with the english language in a fuzzy way. As these habits resemble arrogance more than human compassion, the english might lose sympathy if nothing in global politics changes.

The conclusion: start teaching spanish in all the primary schools in E.U. as the main national language and start using it in the public administration, teach english as the second language and keep the rest for the arts/history classes. Make some room for chinese hindi or bengali classes.

Cred ca va scadea atractia pentru engleza, nu trebuie sa ne miram, franceza a avut si ea perioada ei de glorie si acum e apusa de mult. Probabil ca daca nu o sa inceapa serios sa se faca ceva in privinta limbii din UE o sa se inceapa tot mai mult sa se studieze rusa, si poate ca o sa se inceapa cu limbile arabice. Spun asta din cauza numarului in crestere de emigranti din zonele slave si din Asia. Fiecare isi va dori sa foloseasca limba lui si pe fondul uneui “embargo” fata de limba engleza dezvoltarea unor limbi se va face haotic sub influenta momentului.

Parca ma vad pe la 80 ani ca sunt “cel mai prost” pentru ca nu stiu limba de circulatie internationala a momentului.

Dar… oare merita sa ne ingrijoram?
